Over 54.5 cr JanDhan accounts opened until Jan 15; 57% ladies account holders: FM Sitharaman

NEW DELHI: Greater than 54.5 crore JanDhan accounts have been opened until January 15, 2025, of which about 56 per cent belong to ladies, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned on Monday. Replying to a query within the Lok Sabha, the minister mentioned the federal government began Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) in August 2014 to supply common banking providers for “each unbanked family”. To offer additional impetus to monetary inclusion initiatives of the federal government, PMJDY was prolonged past August 14, 2018, and the main target was shifted to “each unbanked grownup”.
“A complete of 54.58 crore JanDhan accounts have been opened until 15.01.2025, of which 30.37 crore (55.7 per cent) belong to ladies,” Sitharaman mentioned.
The minister additionally gave enrolment knowledge for social safety schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY).
Beneath PMJJBY, the full enrolments stood at 22.52 crore, of which over 10 crore have been ladies, as of January 15.
In case of PMSBY, enrolments stood at 49.12 crore of which 22.84 crore are ladies. In APY, complete enrolment as of December 31 stood at 7.25 crore, of which 3.44 crore are ladies.
