Amit Shah reviews preparations for sixteenth Census

NEW DELHI: Union house minister Amit Shah on Sunday reviewed preparations for India’s sixteenth Census, which can be carried out in 2027 with caste enumeration included for the primary time. The train will be carried out in two phases utilizing digital instruments, with the official notification set to be printed within the gazette on Monday.According to an official assertion, the reference date for the census will be March 1, 2027, for many components of the nation, whereas for snow-bound areas equivalent to Ladakh and sure areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, it is going to be October 1, 2026.The census will be carried out in two levels:

  • Houselisting Operation (HLO): Data on housing circumstances, family property, and facilities.
  • Population Enumeration (PE): Detailed demographic, socio-economic, and cultural data of people.

For the primary time, the Census will be fully digital, with information collected through cell apps. Citizens will even have the choice for self-enumeration. To handle the large-scale operation, the federal government will deploy practically 34 lakh enumerators and supervisors together with 1.3 lakh census functionaries.Shah held a high-level assembly with Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, registrar basic & census commissioner Mritunjay Kumar Narayan, and different senior officers to assess the logistics and readiness for the large nationwide train.This will be India’s sixteenth Census total and the eighth since Independence, carried out after a niche of 16 years—the final being in 2011. The decadal 2021 Census was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.Officials assured that strict information safety protocols will be in place all through the method, from assortment to transmission and storage of data.
