AHMEDABAD: At 1.40 pm on June 12, Satinder Singh Sandhu, cluster fleet supervisor for EMRI 108 at Civil Hospital campus, was close to the hospital when he heard a loud noise adopted by an enormous cloud of smoke. He set off in an ambulance and was among the many first to attain the crash web site. “The first person we spotted was the hostel guard who suffered primary burn injuries. Even as he was dispatched in an ambulance as the first patient from the site, we saw a man coming out near the building,” recounted Sandhu. The man turned out to be Ramesh Viswashkumar, the only real survivor. “We shouted to him as he appeared disoriented and tried to go back to the site, even as fire and smoke billowed. We later got to know his brother was on the flight, and he was trying to check on him. But the EMRI 108 team escorted him to Civil Hospital,” Sandhu added.
