Conduct NEET-UG retest for candidates affected by power cuts, directs Madhya Pradesh high court

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to organise a retest for NEET-UG candidates impacted by power outages at examination centres, recognising that they have been unfairly deprived via no fault of their very own, in accordance with a report by PTI.

The High Court referred to Article 14 of the Indian Constitution, which ensures equality and justice for all residents, to grant reduction to the petitioners.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) was held on 4 May, when some components of the state skilled power outages brought on by dangerous climate.

Justice Subodh Abhyankar from the Indore bench of the High Court reserved his choice within the earlier month after listening to arguments from all concerned events relating to the petitions of a number of NEET-UG candidates.

Mridul Bhatnagar, the petitioners’ lawyer, informed PTI that the court’s order will profit 75 candidates affected by power cuts at NEET-UG examination centres in Indore and Ujjain.

“It is made clear that those persons who have filed the petition after the declaration of provisional answer key i.e., June 3, 2025, shall not be entitled to get any benefit of this order,” PTI quoted order.

The petitioners acknowledged {that a} power outage brought on by dangerous climate on May 4 impacted their efficiency within the entrance examination and requested permission to retake it.

Representing the NTA, Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta cited a committee report indicating that different power preparations have been in place at most examination centres. Additionally, power was rapidly restored following complaints to the power distribution firm.
