Khalid Jamil, who famously guided the unheralded Aizawl Football Club to the I-League title in 2017, was on Friday (August 1, 2025) named head coach of the Indian nationwide men’s football group, turning into the primary Indian in 13 years to occupy the coveted put up.

The 48-year-old Jamil, a former India worldwide and at present in command of Indian Super League aspect Jamshedpur FC, was chosen by the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) govt committee from a three-man shortlist.

The different two contenders had been former India head coach Stephen Constantine and Stefan Tarkovic, who beforehand managed the Slovakia nationwide group.

The AIFF’s Technical Committee, led by legendary striker IM Vijayan, had shortlisted the three candidates for the manager committee’s last determination.

Jamil will succeed Spaniard Manolo Marquez, who parted methods with the AIFF final month following India’s current struggles.

The final Indian to function head coach of the nationwide males’s group was Savio Medeira, who held the place from 2011 to 2012.

Jamil’s first project in his new position would be the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) Nations Cup, to be held in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan beginning August 29.
