Clashes erupt during Ram Navami procession in Bengal’s Murshidabad, security tightened

Tension gripped Jangipur in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on Friday (March 27, 2026) after clashes broke out between two teams during a Ram Navami procession, police mentioned.

The state of affairs turned risky after an altercation during the procession escalated into violence, with either side throwing stones at one another and vandalising property in the realm, a senior police officer mentioned.

Security forces, which have been deployed in massive numbers to deliver the state of affairs below management, have been conducting route marches and sustaining vigil in the affected areas, he added.

“The situation is now under control. Adequate forces have been deployed, and patrolling is ongoing to ensure peace and normalcy. We are closely monitoring the situation and will take strict action against those involved in the violence,” the police officer instructed PTI.

Meanwhile, authorities have urged residents to take care of calm as security has been tightened throughout the area, a senior official on the State Secretariat mentioned.
