Following an almost 10-hour lengthy dialogue, the Chhattisgarh Assembly on Thursday (April 30, 2026) handed a resolution looking for the quick implementation of one-third reservation for women in the Parliament and all Legislative Assemblies after completion of the delimitation course of.
Earlier this month, the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, which sought to redistribute Lok Sabha seats on the idea of the 2011 Census to expedite the implementation of women’s reservation, was defeated in the Lok Sabha after it failed to fulfill the two-thirds majority mark. Since then, BJP governments in varied States have convened particular classes of the respective State Assemblies transferring resolutions for the legislation’s implementation — and in some instances censure motions — in opposition to the Opposition.
