Amazon is shutting down its Shanghai synthetic intelligence lab, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday.

Amazon’s resolution to close the lab comes amidst rising tensions between Washington and Beijing, with the U.S. growing its scrutiny of American corporations working in China.
Wang Minjie, a scientist within the Shanghai lab, stated his staff was “being dissolved due to strategic adjustments amid US-China tensions,” the newspaper stated, citing a publish on WeChat.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) arrange its Shanghai Lab in 2018. While the headcount on the AWS Shanghai research lab is unclear, the FT report stated, AWS at its peak had greater than 1,000 workers in China.
