Assam | AJP candidate’s mom recordsdata grievance with NCW in opposition to Himanta for ‘malicious’ remarks
Guwahati: Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate Kunki Chowdhury’s mom, Sujata Gurung Chowdhury, has filed a grievance with the National Commission for Women (NCW) in opposition to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging that he made “false, baseless and malicious” statements throughout campaigning for the Assembly polls.
In her grievance filed on April 11, 2026, the senior Chowdhury claimed that Mr. Sarma’s statements have been “intended to defame” her and “politically target” the Assam Jatiya Parishad candidate for Guwahati Central and demanded authorized motion in opposition to the CM for “inciting” folks with “fake propaganda”. Mr. Sarma has not but made any remarks on the grievance in opposition to him.
On April 2, the BJP chief claimed that Sujata Gurung Chowdhury had shared social media posts associated to beef consumption, made remarks offensive to sure sections of society and supported Pakistan, thereby hurting the feelings of ‘Sanatani’ folks.
Repeating the identical allegations in the next campaigning part, Mr. Sarma even mentioned he would take motion in opposition to Kunki’s mother and father for allegedly consuming beef and importing an image of it on social media. – PTI
