Centre proposes rules to allow higher ethanol-blended fuels in vehicles | Industry News

India issued a notification ​late on Tuesday proposing ​amendments to the Central ‌Motor Vehicles Rules to formally incorporate higher ethanol-blended fuels.


The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways stated the draft contains provisions for E85 gas, a mix of ‌85 per cent ethanol with petrol, and E100, which might allow vehicles to run on almost pure ethanol.


The draft rules have been opened ​for public feedback, after which the federal government ‌will take a last determination.


India ​achieved its ‌goal of 20 per cent ethanol mixing (E20) ‌in petrol in 2025 and is now ‌wanting to ​enhance mixing additional ​to cut back expensive imports of petroleum merchandise.
