The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has in precept agreed to go forward with the Asia Cup, the continental males’s T20 match, as per the prevailing plan. The eventful ACC annual basic assembly (AGM), held in Dhaka, confirmed the occasion shall be hosted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the United Arab Emirates in September.

“That (the schedule) will also be announced soon. We are in consultation with the BCCI, and hopefully we will resolve it very soon,” Mohsin Naqvi, the ACC chair, advised mediapersons in Dhaka after the AGM was adjourned.

“The BCCI is in discussion with a few event partners, and they have told us they will announce the schedule soon.”

The Hindu understands that the AGM was briefed concerning the September 5 to 21 window for the occasion. Eight groups, together with India and Pakistan, are set to take part.

Asked particularly concerning the India-Pakistan conflict, Naqvi — who additionally heads the Pakistan Cricket Board moreover being a high-profile minister — stated: “Let’s wait for the (schedule) announcement first.”

The BCCI joined the assembly on-line, with vice-president Rajeev Shukla being its official consultant. While Shukla couldn’t be reached for remark, a BCCI supply stated the Board is “positively looking forward to hosting the Asia Cup at a neutral venue”.

Meanwhile, the AGM was adjourned, with the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket thwarting the vice-president’s election. The AGM could also be reconvened throughout the Asia Cup after the stalemate between India and Pakistan over the selection of the vice-presidential candidate is amicably resolved.
