The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai Zonal Unit, has seized 70 metric tonnes of Chinese-origin firecrackers on Monday, 20 April — smuggled into India and arrested two individuals. The seizure, valued at₹17.07 crore, was produced from 4 containers at Nhava Sheva Port beneath an operation codenamed “Pyro Heist”.
The consignments have been declared as different items to evade customs inspection. The accused had tried to maneuver the firecrackers from the imported containers to a different automobile at a Container Freight Station (CFS) after breaking the container seals. DRI officers caught them throughout the switch.
