The Union Finance Ministry has notified new Central GST (CGST) tax rates for items, which will probably be efficient from September 22, 2025.

States will now should observe swimsuit and notify the State GST (SGST) rates to be levied on items and companies starting Monday (September 22, 2025).

Under GST, the revenues are shared equally between the Centre and the States.

Effective Monday (September 22, 2025), GST will probably be a two-tier construction, whereby nearly all of items and companies will entice tax of 5 and 18%.

A 40% tax will probably be levied on extremely luxurious gadgets, whereas tobacco and associated merchandise will proceed to be within the 28% plus Cess class.

Currently, Goods and Services Tax (GST) is levied in 4 slabs of 5, 12, 18 and 28%. Besides, a compensation cess is levied on luxurious gadgets and demerit or sin items.

EY Tax Partner Saurabh Agarwal stated as price notifications have been now being launched, it was crucial for industries to align their ERP techniques, pricing selections and provide chain.

โ€œThis strategic alignment is critical to ensure a smooth implementation and, crucially, to guarantee that the benefits of this rate rationalisation are effectively passed on to the end consumer,โ€ Mr. Agarwal stated.

The determination to decrease tax rates to learn the frequent man was taken by the GST Council, comprising the Centre and States, at its assembly on September 3, 2025.
