Gorakhpur poultry shops shut for 21 days after bird flu cases

GORAKHPUR: All poultry shops in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh have been requested on Saturday to shut for 21 days following detection of avian influenza strains, H5N1 and H9N2, in bird samples from 5 localities within the metropolis.Samples have been taken at Jhungia Bazar, Aluminium Factory space, Taramandal, Bhagat Chauraha, and Shaheed Ashfaqullah Khan Zoological Park. These have been despatched to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) at Bhopal in MP, which confirmed the presence of each strains of the virus.The chief veterinary officer (CVO) activated district-level Rapid Response Teams and arrange a management room on the Sadar Veterinary Hospital to deal with the outbreak.Following the affirmation, extra municipal commissioner, Nirankar Singh, mentioned as per central govt pointers, culling operations have begun inside a 1km radius of the contaminated zones. All stay birds inside this zone shall be culled and disinfection drives are underway there.The CVO appealed to the general public to not heed to rumours and to cooperate with the administration. A complete of 1,328 samples from Gorakhpur and 1,470 samples from the Gorakhpur-Basti division have been examined throughout the surveillance train.The bird flu began from Gorakhpur zoo the place 4 animals – a lion on April 30, leopard Mona on May 8, tigress Shakti on May 7, and a wolf – have up to now succumbed to the virus. The zoo has already been shut for containment measures.
