The Karnataka State Commission for Women (KSCW) took cognisance of the latest online abuse directed at actor and former MP Ramya and wrote to the Police Commissioner to take acceptable action, on Monday (July 28, 2025).
“There are reports that defamatory messages are being directed at actor and former Member of Parliament (MP) Ramya on social media. This is causing damage to the reputation of the woman and the Commission has taken up the issue seriously. Hence, please investigate the matter and take measures to stop the defamatory messages and take appropriate action against those involved,” Nagalakshmi Choudhary, Chairperson of KSCW in her letter to the Police Commissioner.
The actress alleged that she was receiving abusive messages and threats from followers of Kannada actor, Darshan Thoogudeepa. Ms. Ramya had just lately shared an article about Supreme Court proceedings within the matter of Renukaswamy, a local of Chitradurga and had demanded “justice for the family of Renukaswamy”. Mr. Thoogudeepa is one of the accused within the homicide case of Renukaswamy.
Meanwhile, Film Industry for Rights and Equality (FIRE), a non-profit organisation tackling sexual harassment within the Kannada Film Industry, wrote to Home Minister G. Parameshwara demanding action against those that are trolling and abusing Ms. Ramya online.
