SC notice to Telangana over 'delay' in deciding disqualification pleas of BRS MLAs

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notices to the Telangana authorities and others over pleas alleging a delay by the meeting speaker in deciding on the disqualification of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs who defected to the Congress.
A bench comprising Justices B R Gavai and Augustine George Masih sought responses from the state authorities, the speaker’s workplace, the Telangana legislative meeting secretary, the Election Commission of India, and the defected lawmakers. The matter has been posted for listening to on March 25.
One of the petitions challenges the November 2024 order of the Telangana excessive courtroom concerning the disqualification of three BRS MLAs who joined the ruling Congress, whereas the opposite plea pertains to seven extra legislators who defected.
