Tropical Storm Chantal has fashioned off the southeast U.S. coast. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami says tropical storm warnings have been issued for parts of the Carolinas. Tropical storm situations are anticipated in the affected areas later Saturday (July 5, 2025).

At 9 a.m. EDT (6:30 p.m. IST), the storm’s middle was positioned about 150 miles (240 kilometres) south-southeast of Charleston, South Carolina, and about 240 miles (385 kilometres) south-southwest of Wilmington, North Carolina.

Chantal’s most sustained winds had been measured at 40 mph (65 kph). It was transferring north at 2 mph (4 kph).

The middle of Chantal is predicted to maneuver throughout the coast of South Carolina on Sunday (July 6, 2025) morning, the hurricane middle mentioned. Some extra strengthening is predicted earlier than Chantal reaches the coast.
