President Donald Trump introduced late Saturday that he’s withdrawing the nomination of tech billionaire Jared Isaacman, an associate of Mr. Trump adviser Elon Musk, to lead NASA, saying he reached the choice after a “thorough review” of Mr. Isaacman’s “prior associations.”
It was unclear what Mr. Trump meant and the White House didn’t instantly reply to an emailed request for a proof.
“After a thorough review of prior associations, I am hereby withdrawing the nomination of Jared Isaacman to head NASA,” Mr. Trump wrote on his social media web site. “I will soon announce a new Nominee who will be Mission aligned, and put America First in Space.”
Mr. Trump introduced in December throughout the presidential transition that he had chosen Mr. Isaacman to be the area company’s subsequent administrator. Mr. Isaacman, 42, has been a detailed collaborator with Mr. Musk ever since shopping for his first chartered flight on Musk’s SpaceX firm in 2021.
He is the CEO and founder of Shift4, a bank card processing firm. He additionally purchased a sequence of spaceflights from SpaceX and carried out the first personal spacewalk. SpaceX has intensive contracts with NASA.
The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee authorized Mr. Isaacman’s nomination in late April and a vote by the full Senate was anticipated quickly.
Mr. Musk appeared to lament Mr. Trump’s choice after the information broke earlier Saturday, posting on the X web site that, “It is rare to find someone so competent and good-hearted.”
SpaceX is owned by Mr. Musk, a Trump marketing campaign contributor and adviser who introduced this week that he’s leaving the authorities after a number of months at the helm of the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. Mr. Trump created the company to slash the measurement of authorities and put Mr. Musk in cost.
