The high-stakes legislative council elections are widely viewed by political observers as a crucial semifinal contest ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. The electoral battleground encompasses 5 Graduate constituency seats and 6 Teacher constituency seats, where 1.418 million registered voters will decide the political fate of 152 candidates. Voting operations are scheduled to continue from 8 AM to 4 PM.

Elections for the remaining three districts comprising Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, and Unnao had already been conducted previously. To facilitate the smooth conduct of the polls, educational institutions up to class 12 and local liquor establishments have been ordered closed across all participating districts.

Ahead of polling, Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa issued strict instructions directing that no eligible voter should be prevented from exercising their franchise due to minor clerical errors within the official voter lists.

Political tensions surrounding the legislative council polls have escalated sharply. According to Live Hindustan, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav issued a pointed warning to administrative officials, telling them to prepare to go to jail over the conduct of the process.

The counting of votes and the formal declaration of results for all 11 contested seats are scheduled to take place on October 27.
