Roston Chase has two instant puzzles to resolve — discover his groove in Test cricket and tame Australia in his first sequence because the new West Indies captain, and he’s assured of attaining these twin targets together with his “calm style” of management.
Chase is coming again to Test cricket after a hiatus of two years, and his first task is towards Australia in a three-match sequence at residence beginning on Wednesday (June 25, 2025).
“I’ve never captained a senior team in terms of the West Indies team or the Barbados team. But I’ve captained eight teams in the West Indies before. I think I’m a good leader. Obviously, I’m not perfect. I’m still learning,” stated Chase throughout an interplay facilitated by FanCode.
The 33-year-old revealed he had a speak with head coach Darren Sammy forward of taking up from Kraigg Brathwaite.
“The captaincy conversations that I had would have been with the coach, Darren Sammy, and Miles Bascombe from the board. I’ve been out for two years, but Sammy approached me about coming back because I always wanted to come back and play Test cricket”.
