On April 16, the Indian authorities launched three Bills in the Lok Sabha: the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, the Delimitation Bill, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill. The proposed legal guidelines would develop the dimension of the Lok Sabha from 543 seats to 850 seats, and empower the authorities to conduct a brand new delimitation train primarily based on the 2011 inhabitants census. The Constitutional Amendment Bill failed to get the two-thirds majority it wanted, and the authorities promptly withdrew the different two Bills as effectively.
Thus, the delimitation debate has continued, and if something has turn out to be extra fraught by elevating the prospect of the authorities pursuing extra unorthodox and even doubtful means to obtain the aim of increasing Parliament.
