'Will badly affect Muslims': Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin moves motion against Waqf bill in state assembly, urges Centre to withdraw it

NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin on Thursday moved a motion against the proposed Waqf bill in Parliament and urged the central authorities to withdraw it. He mentioned that the bill would “badly affect minority Muslims“.
Speaking in the state meeting, the CM mentioned, “Union Government is trying to amend Waqf Bill, which will hinder the Waqf Board’s powers. This is hurting Muslim sentiments, and Union Government does not bother about it.”
“People are living in religious harmony in India. The Constitution has provided rights for all people to follow their religion. The elected governments have the rights to protect it. The Assembly unanimously insists that the Union government should recall the Waqf Amendment Bill in 2024 for Waqf Act 1995, which will badly affect the minority Muslims to be withdrawn,” he added.
This comes a day after the opposition created a ruckus in Bihar meeting over Waqf modification bill.
The opposition raised slogans, calling for the bill’s withdrawal and the whole implementation of the Sachar Committee’s suggestions, which had highlighted the poor socio-economic situations of Muslims.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill is but to be launched in the Lok Sabha subsequent, possible sparking one other conflict between the federal government and the opposition, as most opposition events stay opposed to the laws. The Cabinet has authorized the proposed amendments, incorporating latest suggestions from the parliamentary panel, clearing the best way for the bill to be tabled for dialogue and passage.
