Election Commission initiates voter enrolment drive across Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW — The Election Commission of India is launching a major voter enrolment drive across Uttar Pradesh, focusing particularly on youth and women, alongside the upcoming special summary revision of electoral rolls beginning November 12.
According to Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa, the special summary revision targets citizens eligible for registration by January 1, 2027. To boost participation, district election officers have been instructed to cross-verify beneficiary lists at ration shops run by the food and civil supplies department, motivating unregistered individuals aged 18 and above to submit Form 6 applications.
The initiative follows a notable contraction in the state’s voter rolls. Following a Special Intensive Revision process that concluded in April, the final assembly electoral rolls recorded 133.9 million voters—a 13.24% decrease from the 154.4 million voters registered on October 27, 2025. Furthermore, the gender ratio dropped significantly from 877 women per 1,000 male voters in the 2025 list to 834 in the post-revision rolls.
To address the low female voter turnout, district election officers will enlist the support of ASHA, ANM, and anganwadi workers, alongside women’s self-help groups, to encourage eligible women to register. Additionally, assistant electoral registration officers will coordinate with Voter Literacy Clubs in educational institutions to onboard eligible students in a mission mode.
As part of the administrative exercise, election authorities will match urban and panchayat local body voter lists with assembly constituency rolls. The State Election Commission previously declared the final panchayat voter list for Uttar Pradesh in June, accounting for 125.85 million voters.
The consolidated voter list will be published on November 12, opening a window for claims and objections through December 11. These submissions will be resolved by December 28, ahead of the final electoral roll publication scheduled for January 4.
