Delhi Police reinforces security at Chief Election Commissioner’s residence amid threat intelligence and protests

Delhi Police has reinforced security around Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s residence in response to fresh threat intelligence, even as the INDIA bloc intensifies demonstrations in the capital.
Already protected by a Z-plus security cover—the nation’s second-highest tier involving roughly 50 personnel operating in shifts for his residence and cavalcade—Kumar’s home saw additional police deployments ordered by senior officials. Local district police have likewise been instructed to step up personnel numbers. A senior police officer noted that because protests are actively underway in the New Delhi district, all security agencies must maintain close coordination to avert untoward incidents.
The security augmentation runs parallel to protests spearheaded by INDIA bloc leaders, including Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, targeting alleged irregularities within the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Opposition figures have called for Kumar to step down from his post.
To manage these demonstrations, safeguard vital government buildings, and preserve public order across central Delhi, the Ministry of Home Affairs has made 221 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces—totaling approximately 23,000 personnel—available to the Delhi Police from October 8 to 12. This deployment stands as one of the largest mobilizations of central forces for law and order duties during a protest in the capital, incorporating CRPF companies drawn from Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh.
