LUCKNOW — The Uttar Pradesh government has finalized plans to construct a 5.5-kilometer-long embankment along the left bank of the Gomti River, stretching from IIM Road to Pakka Pul, to provide permanent protection against waterlogging and seasonal flooding in Faizullaganj and surrounding low-lying areas.

The infrastructure initiative was decided during a high-level meeting between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Providing permanent relief to Lucknow residents from recurring waterlogging remains a core administrative priority, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated.

The comprehensive project involves building 12 new pumping stations and developing a structured drainage network connecting Nyay Vihar to the Eldico Drain. Additional planned works include extensive dredging operations in the Gomti River, the establishment of a new 132 KV sub-station to stabilize local power supply, upgrading existing primary health centers to community health centers, and setting up a new integrated educational institution catering from pre-primary up to the 12th standard.

The intervention follows severe flooding along the riverbanks. According to official records, the water level of the Gomti River touched 108.60 meters on October 8, surpassing the designated warning mark of 108.50 meters.

District authorities reported that the resulting inundation impacted more than 38,000 residents across 6,500 families spanning 21 mohallas in Faizullaganj. Emergency response measures at the time deployed 16 relief posts, 8 shelter homes, 106 boats, 40 motorboats, and 19 steamers coordinated through the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). Relief distributions included 11,275 food kits, 67,800 lunch packets, and over 1.18 lakh liters of drinking water, while medical teams administered treatment to 8,591 patients.
