Delhi Police register four FIRs and arrest 18 people following violent Sansad Marg protests

Delhi Police have registered four FIRs and arrested 18 people following violent protests on Sansad Marg over demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The demonstration, organised by NSUI workers on Monday, began at the outfit’s Raisina Road headquarters where participants lay covered in white sheets symbolizing bodies before attempting to march toward Jantar Mantar. During the subsequent clashes, a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable, identified as Bikrom Kumar, was allegedly attacked with a sharp-edged object as he moved a protester away from a barricade. Police said the injured personnel sustained a minor injury to his right elbow and was taken to RML Hospital for treatment, while the accused protester was detained.
Authorities stated that the four cases registered cover rioting, damaging public property, obstructing public servants from discharging their duties, and the assault on the CISF personnel. Police are currently scanning CCTV footage to identify other protesters involved in the violence. Protests demanding the CEC’s resignation over alleged irregularities in SIR have taken place in the capital over recent days. A previous case was registered by Delhi Police under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on October 2 for breaking laws, obstructing public servants and assault.
In a separate development, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) accused of misbehaving with a female journalist during the protests was promoted on Monday to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, alongside 11 other officers. Three female journalists had accused Delhi Police officers of sexual harassment during a demonstration at Jantar Mantar last Saturday. That matter has been transferred to the Crime Branch for investigation.
