The disruptions stem from an upcoming demonstration organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar. The protest targets Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, whom the party accuses of carrying out vote theft for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and is anticipated to attract a massive crowd.

The cancellations affect services leaving their starting points after 2 pm on October 9 that were scheduled to reach either terminus between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10. Sources familiar with the developments explained that the measure was designed to prevent traveller hardship amid anticipated road blockades and widespread transit disruptions. “Severe congestion is expected in Delhi, leading to major disruptions due to blocked roads. To avoid passenger inconvenience, the Railways has taken this tough decision,” sources said.

Concurrently, the Delhi Police has urged the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to weigh shutting down entry and exit points at 57 metro stations beginning the night of October 9.

According to an October 8 communication sent by the Joint Commissioner of Police, Transport Range, to DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar, train frequencies at these locations could also face reductions. The letter cited concerns over unpredictable crowd movements toward sensitive zones within the New Delhi district, proposing that the restrictions take effect from 9 pm on October 9 and remain in force through October 10 until conditions stabilise.
