Police register FIR against Samajwadi Party workers for Pratapgarh protest


Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against five named Samajwadi Party workers and nearly 150 unidentified party members and office-bearers in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district for allegedly violating prohibitory orders during a demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
According to police, the protest took place on Wednesday when SP workers took out a procession and staged a demonstration at Ambedkar Chowk without obtaining permission from the superintendent of police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (City) Ashutosh Mishra said that prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were in active force across the district at the time of the incident.
Police stated that despite being intercepted by law enforcement personnel, the demonstrators continued their protest, raised slogans, and allegedly burnt an effigy of the Election Commission chief.
The five named individuals in the FIR have been identified as Ram Khelawan Yadav from Sukhpal Nagar, Javed Akhtar from Teliya Chauraha, Chandrashekhar Pal, Chandrashekhar, and Sandeep Yadav from Ojhla.
Authorities said legal proceedings are underway. Police are currently reviewing video footage of the demonstration to identify other participants involved in the protest.
