Delhi Police asks DMRC to consider station closures and train frequency reductions ahead of planned demonstrations

Delhi Police has asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to consider shutting down entry and exit gates at 57 stations across the capital starting at 9 pm on October 9.
According to an October 8 police letter, the proposed closures and operational restrictions are aimed at countering potential unruly crowd movements toward sensitive areas during demonstrations planned for October 10 at Jantar Mantar and other locations in the New Delhi district.
The communication also proposed lowering the frequency of trains running through the designated stations. These restrictions are slated to remain in effect on October 10 until the situation normalizes, with law enforcement urging the DMRC to instruct relevant personnel to execute the security measures.
Spanning multiple corridors, the 57 stations identified in the police communication include Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Mandi House, Supreme Court, New Delhi, Kashmere Gate, Jama Masjid, Chawri Bazar, Karol Bagh, Vishwavidyalaya, Hauz Khas, INA, Lajpat Nagar, Sarai Kale Khan-Nizamuddin, Jamia Millia Islamia, and Okhla Vihar.
The list further covers Rithala, Rohini East, Rohini West, Shahdara, Welcome, Maujpur, Inderlok, Seelampur, Jafrabad, Yamuna Vihar, Azadpur, Majlis Park, and Haiderpur Badli Mor, among others.
