While the turnout of young protesters has not matched the scale seen during earlier demonstrations regarding a minister’s resignation, significant numbers participated in a protest call issued on Monday by the Congress party and various student unions at Barakhamba Road.

Participants argued that the SIR process was initiated without being sufficiently streamlined. They contended that subsequent modifications introduced by the Election Commission indicate the initial procedure lacked transparency.

Vishal, an 18-year-old participant who has not yet registered as a voter, said family members faced difficulties during the ongoing creation of the new voter list in Delhi, prompting him to support the demonstration. Another student, who declined affiliation with any political party, emphasized the need for complete transparency in such a large-scale administrative process.

Demonstrator Sonali Yadav, who joined the protest holding the Constitution and climbed onto a bus, called for accountability regarding election officials. Meanwhile, another participant, Avinash, noted the high turnout and suggested that future demonstrations require better organization and discipline to prevent any disruption or damage.

The active involvement of youth highlights that the preparation of electoral rolls has extended beyond political parties. For individuals preparing to cast their first ballots, the enrollment process involves critical questions regarding rights and registration. Protesters emphasized the necessity of simplifying procedures, providing adequate avenues for public grievances, and maintaining transparency to uphold public trust in democratic systems.
