An Indian-origin man, arrested in Texas over an assault case by the United States Marshals Service, has been extradited to Canada, native media reported.
Sukhpreet Singh, 25, is among the a number of suspects needed in reference to the assault of Elnaz Hajtamiri in 2021 in Canada, CTVNews reported on Friday (October 4).
He was arrested in June this yr by the members of the United States Marshals Service and charged in August, the report quoted York Regional Police.
Singh, extradited to York Region on Tuesday, is going through costs of aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, it added.
A Canada-wide warrant was issued for Singh in 2023 after he was recognized as a suspect in the violent assault on Hajtamiri in an underground parking storage in Richmond Hill, City News reported.
In 2022, 4 suspects, together with Hajtamiri’s ex-boyfriend, Mohamad Lilo, have been charged in reference to the assault, tried homicide and tried kidnapping, the report added.
In 2023, three extra suspects have been arrested in reference to the case. Singh’s arrest brings the whole variety of people charged in the Hajtamiri’s case to eight.
Hajtamiri was kidnapped from Wasaga Beach on January 12, 2022, simply weeks after the Richmond Hill assault.
