Activists march toward Election Commission headquarters in central Delhi to protest electoral roll revision

NEW DELHI — A protest march opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged voter deletions headed towards the Election Commission of India headquarters in central Delhi on Friday, drawing heavy security deployments and traffic restrictions.
The demonstration was organised by the Delhi Coordination Committee of People Against SIR. Student and youth bodies, including the Krantikari Yuva Sangathan and the Students’ Federation of India, extended their backing to the movement, drawing participants from Delhi, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh.
The march began near Gole Dak Khana at the intersection of Kalibari Marg and Bhai Vir Singh Marg. Activists moved through areas near the Bangla Sahib Gurudwara towards Connaught Place, Parliament Street, and Jantar Mantar.
Ahead of the march, security was intensified across central Delhi, with large contingents of Delhi Police and the Rapid Action Force deployed along the route. According to the Delhi Traffic Police, traffic diversions were enforced across parts of central Delhi from 1 pm to 5 pm to manage congestion caused by the demonstration.
Organisers stated that the march would remain peaceful and disciplined. They said that if security forces blocked their progression, participants would hold a “People’s Parliament” on the street, conclude with the adoption of resolutions, and sing the national anthem.
The Students’ Federation of India also called for solidarity demonstrations across various district headquarters alongside the central Delhi mobilisation.
