Speaker Om Birla outlines removal process for Election Commissioner amid expanding protests

NEW DELHI — Social and political activist Yogendra Yadav stated that the protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is expanding from New Delhi to villages and towns across the country.
The demonstrations, which have also drawn criticism from opposition parties and organizations targeting the central government, stem from allegations by demonstrators concerning irregularities in voter list operations.
Speaking at Parliament House in New Delhi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addressed the political friction by outlining the statutory framework governing election officials. According to Birla, removing election commissioners follows a prescribed protocol similar to the process used for removing Supreme Court judges. The Speaker added that appropriate procedures will be followed if the opposition re-submits a notice for a motion against the Chief Election Commissioner.
